Tonight and Monday you're looking at a hot, dry stretch. We'll stay in the upper 70s tonight with mostly sunny skies Monday pushing 92°F. There's virtually no rain chance—we're talking 1-2% at most. Tuesday cranks up another notch to 93°F with plenty of sun. This heat pattern holds through the entire week.

What's locking us into this hot spell is a textbook setup in the upper atmosphere. There's a deep trough (a dip in the jet stream, that river of fast air around 30,000 feet) over the western U.S. right now—it's so strong it's actually producing snow in the Wyoming mountains. Meanwhile, an upper-level ridge (a bulge of high pressure aloft) is parked over the Southeast and is funneling heat right into our region. Think of it like two weather systems playing tug-of-war, and we're stuck in the middle of their hot zone. Any storms trying to move down from Nebraska will run into our hot, unfavorable air and just fizzle out before reaching us.

The real change doesn't come until the weekend. That western trough finally pushes eastward around Saturday night into Sunday, and it'll bring a cold front that could introduce some rain chances by Independence Day weekend. Until then, we're in an Extreme Heat Warning, so heat index values are going to push 100-110°F. It's the kind of pattern where the day-to-day forecast is almost boring—hot and sunny, rinse and repeat.
