Tonight through Tuesday, Las Vegas stays clear and dry with highs near 95°F and lows in the low 70s. This is actually 8-12 degrees cooler than normal for late June, which'll feel pretty nice. The main story is the wind. Right now we've got gusty southwest winds wrapping up this evening, then they'll shift northwest between 1 and 2 AM and gradually calm down through Monday. By Monday afternoon, winds'll be lighter and more seasonal.

What's driving all this? There's a lingering upper-level trough (a dip in the jet stream, that river of fast air around 30,000 feet) sitting over the western US. That trough is creating a pressure gradient, which is just a fancy way of saying the pressure difference between high and low pressure areas creates wind. As long as that trough sticks around, we'll see elevated breezes most of the week. The good news is we're not expecting rain—just 10-30% chances today and Monday, and basically nothing after that through the Fourth of July.

Look ahead to mid-week and you'll notice those winds ramp back up on Wednesday and Thursday, with gusts around 15-35 mph. By then, temperatures will start climbing back toward normal (upper 90s to low 100s), but we'll still be dry. The combination of gusty winds, very dry air, and low humidity overnight is exactly why fire weather conditions could get dicey mid-week, so pay attention to any fire restrictions the county puts in place.
