Right now we're in a cloudy stretch that'll stick around through Tuesday. Tonight you'll see mostly cloudy skies and a low near 50°F with almost no rain. Monday shapes up similarly—mostly cloudy, highs in the upper 60s, and still bone dry. Tuesday follows the same script: mostly cloudy, low 60s for highs, virtually no precipitation. Olympia's staying dry the whole way through.

What's keeping us in this pattern is a broad upper level trough, that's a dip in the jet stream (the river of fast air up around 30,000 feet) parked over the Pacific Northwest. Think of it like a stalled weather factory—weak disturbances are shuffling through, but they're mostly steering rain toward the mountains while leaving the lowlands like us high and dry. Below-normal temperatures go hand-in-hand with that trough. The coast is getting hit hardest with clouds and wind, especially with the marine advisory in effect for small craft over the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but here in Olympia we're on the leeward side and catching a break.

The good news? That trough is forecast to clear out by late week. An upper level ridge—basically a bulge of high pressure aloft—is expected to build in from the Pacific by Friday and into the weekend. When that happens, temperatures will trend closer to normal and the dry spell should continue. For now though, you're looking at a quiet, cool, cloudy few days. Great weather for staying indoors, not great if you're hoping for summer warmth.
