Tonight and Monday, San Antonio stays dry and hot under high pressure. You'll see 77 degrees tonight with partly cloudy skies, then 97 degrees Monday afternoon under mostly sunny conditions. The wind's going to be noticeable both days, with gusts between 25 and 30 mph from the south. Expect that milky haze you might notice in the sky—that's Saharan dust that's traveled all the way from Africa and mixed into our atmosphere.

What's driving this setup is a strong area of high pressure parked right over us, blocking any weather systems from moving in. High pressure always sinks air, which warms it up and suppresses clouds and rain. Combined with southerly winds pulling warm air from the Gulf, we're locked into this hot, dry pattern. You'll also notice something called the Saharan Air Layer—basically a thick layer of dust and dry air that blew across the Atlantic from the Sahara Desert. It's harmless but can reduce visibility and give the sky that washed-out look. The jet stream, that river of fast air up around 30,000 feet, is positioned in a way that keeps weather systems well away from us.

Looking ahead, this dry and hot stretch continues through at least Friday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s staying the norm. The only slight wrinkle is a slim chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm over the coastal plains or far western Val Verde County, driven by the sea breeze or a feature called the dryline (where dry desert air meets moist Gulf air), but San Antonio itself stays bone dry. This is textbook early summer weather for South Texas—hot, clear, and relentless.
