Tonight through Tuesday, Seattle stays mostly cloudy and dry with highs near 70 on Monday and lows in the mid-50s. There's barely any rain in the forecast for the city itself, though the mountains could pick up a few showers as weak systems move overhead. You might catch some afternoon sun breaks, but overall expect that overcast, cool feel to hang around through at least Tuesday.

What's driving this? A broad upper-level trough, that's a dip in the jet stream sitting over the Pacific Northwest, is keeping weaker weather systems rolling through the region. That trough is also what's holding cooler-than-normal air in place. Meanwhile, out over the Pacific, a high-pressure ridge is starting to build, and by late this week it'll swing onshore and flip the whole pattern. That ridge acts like a lid on the atmosphere, pushing systems north and bringing warmer, drier air into Washington.

So if you're tired of the gray and cool, there's good news: starting Friday, that ridge moves in and temperatures climb back toward normal while the clouds clear out. For now though, layers are still your friend, and any outdoor plans the next couple days don't need to account for rain in the city, though the mountains are a different story.
