Tonight and Monday, you're looking at clear skies and hot sunshine with highs around 101°F on Monday. Winds will stay breezy from the southwest, especially this evening before they calm down overnight. Monday night dips to around 69°F, then Tuesday brings more of the same—sunny, around 100°F, and bone dry. Fire weather conditions are elevated today and will remain elevated Monday, so if you're outdoors or working with anything flammable, those dry southwest winds are something to respect.

What's driving all this is an upper-level trough (that's a dip in the jet stream, the river of fast air up around 30,000 feet) sitting over the western states. It's squeezing out moisture and allowing those strong southwest winds to barrel through. The trough will gradually weaken this week, and a subtropical ridge—a bulge of high pressure down toward Mexico—will start building northward. That ridge is basically a heat engine: it sinks air from above, compresses it, warms it up, and keeps rain away. So dry and hot is the story for the next several days.

Heading into late week, there's a chance some moisture sneaks back in around Thursday and Friday, which could trigger some afternoon clouds and maybe a stray storm on Friday or Saturday. But the subtropical ridge is resetting the pattern, so forecasters are still in a wait-and-see mode for how things shape up into the Fourth of July weekend. The takeaway: this week is all about heat, sunshine, and very dry air—typical early-summer Desert Southwest setup.
